Office Romance Diaries: First Thought? Nice Butt.

You know how people always say, ā€œDon’t mix business with pleasureā€? Well… Melody and Michael missed that memo.

They both worked at a PR Agency in Lagos, where everyone’s minding their business and trying to survive back-to-back meetings. But somehow, in between system fixes and random office chats, a little spark showed up, and let’s just say, things got interesting.

In this new blog series — Office Romance Diaries, Melody (not her real name) gives me the real scoop on what it’s like falling for someone at work. From that first unexpected spark to the awkwardness of keeping things under wraps, this is the kind of gist you’ll want to sip tea while reading.

It’s giving romance, it’s giving gist, and it’s giving ā€œI didn’t see that coming."

Let’s get into it!

So, how did you guys even meet at work, and what was the first impression?

He was a data analyst at my former agency. We ā€œunofficiallyā€ met when he asked if I could spare a few minutes to help fix something on my system. I honestly didn’t think much of it at the time and didn’t even plan on saying much to him.

First impression? Nice butt. No lies told. He has a nice butt for a manšŸ˜…

Lmaoo! When did things start to shift? Like, when did you go from ā€˜nice butt’ to ā€˜hmm, I kinda like this guy’?

Well… the morning after I officially met him lol. It was an extreme instant and quick like. Don’t blame me, he’s my type to the T. I was a finished woman.

Okay, but who made the first move? Spill the tea.

That would be me! We were out for drinks with friends, and I just went for it. I kissed him. Period! No regrets.

A bold queen, we stan! Did you guys try to keep it on the low at work?

Oh yeah. We’re still keeping things private, technically. But in the beginning? It was sooo awkward for me. I’m not good at hiding my feelings, and part of me wanted to announce it to the world like, ā€œGuys! I bagged this man!ā€ šŸ˜‚ But over time, I learned to chill… a little.

Did anyone eventually figure it out, though?

Yep. People close to us started piecing it together. We’re in a tight circle, so even before we were official, folks would joke that we looked like we were already dating.

What’s the best part about dating someone you work with, though? Be honest.

Omo… Going to work in the morning after he rearranged your guts, and acting like we don’t know each other’s hidden birthmarks. Sends me every time.

Haha! Any awkward moments you can remember?

Oh yes. According to him, one day he was talking to some girls, and I just came over to say something small and left. And they told him, ā€œYou know that girl likes you, right?ā€ Meanwhile, I was already deep in the trenches.

Would you tell someone else to go for it, like dating a coworker? Or avoid it?

I’d say:

Do you, queen. Just protect your peace. The fewer people who know, the better.

Last one, what’s one moment that had you both trying not to laugh out loud at work?
He once called me babe at the office by mistake. The way we both froze mid-sentence. I couldn’t even breathe.
