30 Ways I Know Love Exists

30 Ways I Know Love Exists

I made a list of everything that reminds me that love exists in this world. Why? I strongly believe love is the most powerful feeling we have, and we often limit it to romance. But it is so much more than that. It lives in ordinary moments, in mundane habits, and in the people who show up.

I am learning in this season that in life, everything can feel so permanent, but it can also disappear in an instant. So, don’t take anything for granted.

Hence, I made a list to convince you. Maybe reading it will help you notice just how much of it is already around you.

I know love exists because of how:

1. My mom made pounded yam from scratch every time we came home from university, no matter how tired she was. My brother and I knew we would always meet a sumptuous plate of pounded yam and egusi with orisirisi.

2. My husband searches for new recipes to cook for me every time, so that he can expand what I get to taste.

3. My girlfriends threw me the perfect Friends-themed bridal shower, making me feel completely seen, loved, and heard.

4. My sister-in-law makes and sends bottles of zobo because she knows how much I love hers — still the best I have ever tasted.

5. My friends P and R buy me flowers every birthday because they know how much I love them.

6. The vegetable seller in Utako market sometimes lets me take ugu without paying, and I surprise her on other days by giving her more than the price.

7. My best friend, Monalisa, makes random video calls just to hear my voice, even when she has nothing particular to say.

8. My husband. We fight, we annoy each other, but we are beautiful together

9. My father keeps me updated on news in whatever sector I am working in, every time I change jobs. Recently, he saw my boss on the NTA Breakfast show, and he sent me clips with his notes on how to improve the sector.

10. You. Every time I publish a story, you read it.

11. My best friend, Solape, who shows up for me in every way possible, every time in a way I can’t even fathom or express.

12. My masseuse. God truly gave her magic hands that take the stress out of my body.

13. My spiritual mentor, who made life easier for my husband and me all through our wedding season.
14. My friends always tell me to text when I get home after every hangout.

15. My colleague and friend, Rae, asking every weekday if I have had lunch, because she knows I get too engrossed in work that I forget to eat.

16. People who pray for me without telling me they are doing it.

17. My skincare vendor who occasionally slips an extra face sheet into my package. It is such a small thing, but I always notice.
18. My brother, Damola, who loves me enough to tell me when I am wrong and then goes on to tell me how he would rectify the situation if he were in my shoes.

19. The people who showed up for my wedding, travelled, dressed up, danced, ate, prayed, and celebrated with us.

20. All the managers I have worked with who gave me room to grow and strive for excellence at all times.

21. Some of my readers who send me a message saying, “I read your story, and it did abc,” when I had almost convinced myself nobody was reading.

22. My friends who send me the most ridiculous clips on IG and TikTok in the middle of a serious workday and manage to make me laugh.

23. Watching my best friend’s parents still tease each other in public during his 70th birthday.

24. My secondary school classmate, Wole, who has sent me a new month message without fail for over ten years.

25. The old couple I sat beside on a flight, helping each other buckle their seatbelts. There was something so beautiful about watching them care for each other.

26. The random messages that say, “I was thinking about you, so I decided to check in.” There is something special about knowing I crossed someone’s mind.

27. My brother, Adeleye, simply existing. Knowing I have him in my corner, that I will always have a big brother to lean on, makes the world feel a little less scary.

28. Strangers who help each other without a second thought, simply because someone needs help.

29. God, whose love keeps finding me in ways I cannot always explain.

30. Life itself.

And now I’m curious: what are the little things that remind you that love exists? I hope you find a moment to think about them today.
